Relevant and Innovative learning Scenario
By: Alonzo Moses
1. Target Audience - College students, Adults
2. Materials - Use of computers, and training/tutorial video.
3. Objectives – The student will be able to plan an animation utilizing the web tool GoAnimate with the features provided by the site. The student will be able to access goanimate.com and create an animation of their choice. The student will have access to a creative tool that will allow them to approach projects in an unique way.
4. Procedure – On Wednesday:
1. Introduction to the web tool.
2. Watch a training video that I made.
3. Explaining of the assignment to be completed.
- On Thursday:
1. Have students setup an account.
2. Allow students to begin using the tool; familiarize themselves with tool.
3. Plan/create interesting stories.
4. Save their work and share it publicly for viewing the next day.
5. GoAnimate is what I designed my RILS around. GoAnimate, in short, is an animation tool that allow users to create a variety of animation with the use a computer and no downloading necessary.
6. Social learning – Students are given the time to brainstorm and plan out what type of animation they would like to create. Because the animation is creator's choice, students are given a chance to reach inside pull out that creative side of themselves.
7. Connections – Since GoAnimate is an animation tool, its great as a starter animation tool for beginners. It gives them a preview of how basic animation production is done and processes that are taken to create an animation show.
8. Product – An online animation.
9. Assessment – Students will be given a survey to evaluate their experience with the program. It will consist of about six essay questions which they have to answer to complete the survey.
10. Reflection - The student will be asked to present their animation to their peers and give peer-to-peer critique. The teacher will also view these animations and give a critique.
My Reflection of the overall RILS process
GoAnimate was a pretty neat tool to work with. The students I work with seem excited about learning it and in fact couldn’t wait to start creating. GoAnimate allowed students that weren’t given that special drawing talent to express their creativity with the pre-made characters.
I think GoAnimate would make a great creative tool to use in classroom. I had fun working with it and so did the students I worked with.
